A resident-run special purpose district, formed by voters in 2002 to keep the valley livable.
Our History
Mosquito control in Leavenworth started informally, through the Leavenworth Lions Club's efforts in the late 1990s. As the valley's seasonal mosquito problem grew, community members recognized the need for a dedicated, publicly accountable program.
In the fall of 2002, voters overwhelmingly approved the formation of the Leavenworth Mosquito Control District. The program shifted from occasional aerial spraying toward a proactive larviciding program, and the district created its first Manager position in May 2003.
Today, LMCD scouts and treats known breeding sites across five zones covering Leavenworth and the lower Icicle Valley, prioritizing larvicide over adulticide and monitoring closely each season from March through October.
Get involved
Board meetings are open to the public and held generally on the first or third Monday of the month. Board seats (two-year terms) periodically open to residents living within the district boundary.
